• Q:  What makes this mineral salt deodorant different from regular antiperspirant?

    A:  So many things.

    • It kills microbes on your skin naturally so you don’t smell bad.
    • It doesn’t clog your pores.
    • It doesn’t absorb through your skin and into your body.
    • It’s naturally-occurring so it doesn’t have a ton of weird, hard to pronounce chemicals. In fact, it has just one, natural active ingredient.
    • It doesn’t stain your clothes, like at all.
    • It’s truly unscented so you can still use your favorite expensive designer fragrance!

We have more, but we’ll save it for other questions because this one is getting long.

  • Q:  Is this something new?

A:  It’s not new to the world, but it IS relatively new in the US so not a lot of people know about it yet.

  • Q: How do I know it’s safe?

A: It is very safe. In fact, some places use it to treat drinking water! But that’s not how we recommend this deodorant and spray be used. Please use as directed and observe safety guidelines below.

  • Q:  What is the active ingredient?

A:  It is a naturally-occurring mineral salt called potassium alum. It has a few other names.

  • Q:  Wait, isn’t alum short for aluminum?

A: Yes, but this one is a naturally-occurring mineral salt. Its natural makeup and solubility make it too big to absorb into the body. Its full name is potassium aluminum sulfate.

    .

(Artificially lab-made ingredients used in OTHER deodorants/antiperspirants like aluminum chlorohydrate are designed to dissolve into smaller ions to block sweat glands and have other ingredients to actually increase blocking of sweat glands and absorb into the body.)

    .

The natural potassium alum in OUR deodorant just sits on top of skin and kills microbes safely and effectively throughout the day.

  • Q: Any safety considerations?

We go out of our way to use the safest ingredients in our products, but please use common sense. Goes without saying, but do not apply to or spray this in your eyes or in your nose. Do not inhale. If you get it in your eyes, please rinse with lots of clean water. Discontinue or use less in the rare case a skin rash or some other reaction occurs, though it shouldn’t. Rinse hands after use. Seek medical attention if needed, but something must have gone very wrong if that’s the case. These are just standard practices for any personal care item, and our product is no different in that regard.

  • Q:  So, how does your deodorant work?

A:  The natural active ingredient, potassium alum, in our deodorant sits on top of skin and kills microbes safely and effectively throughout the day. It does this in a few ways. It creates a thin layer microbes have a hard time getting through, it tightens skin and pores, it creates an environment more acidic than microbes need to thrive, and it dries out the microbes by drawing water out of their cells. It does all this while being gentle on your human skin without any buildup, oils, or stains on skin or clothing.

It’s almost like an underarmor 🙂, except that name is already taken sadly 🙁.

  • Q:  Wow, that’s impressive. But many hours does it last? Is it strong enough for active lifestyles?

A:  Absolutely! It typically lasts all day and even into the next day. You can be active, work out in the gym, play sports, and you’ll likely find it more than meets the challenge. You may want to apply a little longer before more rigorous activities. We’ve been using this exclusively for a year and even after workout days we find we’re still not stinky the next morning! Ok, that may be TMI, but you asked.

  • Q:  How long does this deodorant last?

A:  All day! Also all day if you’re asking about total duration. This deodorant lasts much longer than traditional deodorants.

    .

(Assuming you don’t drop it right away, but even then you can use the pieces in your spray bottle, so not all is lost.)

    .

Also, it is shelf-stable for years and does not melt in hot weather unlike other deodorants so what you buy is what you use.

  • Q:  Are hairy underarms ok?

A:  Yes, and it has been successfully tested to underarm hair 3/4" in length. (Our scientists are hard at work!)

Note, more hair gives bacteria more surface area to hide and grow. You can apply more where there’s more hair to compensate. Or consider trimming periodically. Totally up to you, of course. Great hair takes work. 😀.

  • Q: Is this deodorant worth it?

A: If you consider the average US deodorant/anti-perspirant costs $5 and lasts about a month and you apply it once a day, that’s about 30 uses, which comes to $0.17 per day.

  • .

Let us value our natural deodorant at around $15 (given it comes in a Duo for $25 with the spray). Ours tends to last 6 or more months (not counting the spray) if you take care of it. Let’s say 6 months, and at $15 / (6 months x 30 days) that's just $0.08 per day. That’s less than half the price! (We should really reconsider our pricing.)

There you have it. You do the math, but we think it is SO worth it! And think about all those future medical bills and wasted time you will be avoiding. It’s really priceless, if you think about it.
